  • Abstract
In this report we present the review of recent theoretical and experimental investigation of photonic structures, or photonic crystals based on the functional materials, namely on the materials, which are characterized by the order parameters: magnetics, ferroelectrics, and superconductors. All these materials are very attractive for practical applications because it is possible to govern of their optical and high-frequency properties with the internal magnetic and electric fields as well as with the temperature. The linear and nonlinear optical and high-frequency properties of PCs constructed from these materials and complex photonic structures will be presented and analyzed. We also shall discuss a possible applications of photonic crystals based on the functional materials.
