Abstract
An innovative mobile satellite network that will broadcast data and audio signals (voice and music) to mobiles throughout the contiguous United States through MSAT, a North American mobile satellite system now under construction, is described. Mobiles with suitably equipped radios and small L -band omnidirectional mobile satellite antennas simultaneously receive one data channel and any one of many audio channels. Pages, travel advisories, and navigation data are sent through the data channel. An optional global positioning system (GPS) microprocessor uses a common mobile antenna and receiver front end and GPS differential corrections and integrity data sent through the network data broadcast channel to provide precise vehicle navigation. Optional mobile transmitters permit two-way data communications
