  • Abstract
    This paper reports on the capability of a typical salient pole generator used for case studies in a simple radial system and in a four bus interconnected network. For both systems attempts are made to highlight indices of voltage collapse under various simulation conditions for locations of interest using EMTDC/PSCAD software. Simulation results suggest that the generator´s capability could be determined from profiles of excitation voltage, power factor of the system in which the generator is connected, and the load angle. From the two case studies, the indices identified for the prediction of voltage collapse are: characteristics of the source reactive power, load reactive power, the excitation voltage and the V/Q ratio of the load.
