Abstract
Various ageing processes that occur in organic insulators when they are exposed to the weather are investigated. The operating conditions (rain, contamination,UV radiation, etc.) are related to the physical damage that they produce and the electrical or mechanical failure which may finally occur. Laboratory tests of material samples and pin-type insulator prototypes are reported. Results obtained for a 15-kV insulator (NEMA 55.4) are satisfactory.<>
