  • Abstract
The manufacturing messaging specification MMS, standardized as ISO/IEC 9506 nearly 20 years old, but still in use, always lacked a convenient application interface. The semantics of MMS of the main services of MMS are nearly identical to those of OPC, so it is only natural to use OPC as an application interface. At the same time, such a construct gives OPC access to remote devices in a quite efficient way using only a TCP/IP socket communication, thus avoiding firewall issues and improving security. It also allows to browse devices rather than preconfigured OPC servers This contribution shows the mapping of OPC to MMS and describes an implementation
