Abstract
The ground penetrating radar (GPR) is currently one of the most convenient sensors used for the detection of the dielectric objects buried under the ground. Ultra wideband (UWB) GPR has a significant advantage due to benefit from both low and high frequencies, which means long-range detection with better resolution respectively. In this paper, a compact, low cost GPR using an impulse waveform is developed. The UWB GPR system is mainly composed of an impulse generator, UWB transmitting and receiving antennas, timing circuit, signal conditioner, high accuracy digitizer, and a laptop computer for data storage and image processing. An experimental UWB GPR system is designed and tested.
