Abstract
Object oriented Databases can be used for applications like CAD that require support for complex data types and long duration transactions. In Object oriented databases, parallel execution of runtime requests and design time requests are allowed. This requires concurrency control mechanisms to ensure consistency of data and schema. Multi-granular lock models are favoured as they provide better concurrency while maintaining consistency. Several multi-granular lock models have been proposed to support fine granular runtime requests. But design time requests are still supported in coarse granularity. As they are parallely executed, the overall concurrency is still restrained. The proposed scheme exploits the semantics of object oriented concepts to provide fine granularity for design time requests to provide overall better performance.
