  • Abstract
The first data obtained with a prototype rapid-sequential-positioning (RSP) remote-manipulator task, developed for assessing the effect of various characteristics of teleoperator displays and control systems, are presented. The RSP task requires the operator to move a remote manipulator as quickly as possible to touch, in sequence, ten target sites embedded in a complex wire maze. The data were remarkably consistent across subjects, suggesting that the prototype RSP task can be refined into a standard test instrument for quantitative evaluation of teleoperator displays and manipulator systems
