  • Abstract
Deutsche Telekom´s view on network convergence from a strategic point of view is presented. For this purpose, a network vision is presented and compared to the existing network. Since all platforms of the existing network use a common WDM and SDH network, a potential for convergence is only seen for higher protocol levels. There, a convergence can be obtained by substituting the current ISDN/GSM based voice platforms using voice over IP. It is explained, why such a convergence is not expected within the next five to ten years for the existing network in Germany. Nevertheless an IP dominated network is expected due to higher traffic growth rates in this area
