Abstract
In this paper we are investigating two methods to improve header performance in single carrier 60 GHz wireless personal area network (WPAN) systems. The first method is to use RAKE receivers. The second one is employing concatenated coding, on top of basic Reed-Solomon coding, Hamming code is employed as inner code. The performance improvement has been validated by computer simulations in a realistic fading environment. Our results indicate that a 4-finger RAKE receiver provides more than 2.5 dB performance gain in comparison to a receiver without RAKE reception at a packet error rate of 0.01, whereas concatenated coding only improves 0.7 dB.
