Abstract
The authors have developed IOA-1 Multi-Function Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (MADCP). It consists of Broad Band Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (BBADCP), working at 150 kHz, and Acoustic Concentration Profiler (ACP), working at 220 kHz. The MADCP can measure current velocity and suspended sediment concentration simultaneously so as to display in real time the movement of suspended sediment. In July 1999, an experiment with MADCP was made in the East China Sea. The experimental data of current velocity and suspended sediment concentration are compared respectively with ADP of SONTEK, AANDERAA current meters and water samples acquired simultaneously, and both current velocity and concentration data are in well agreement. In addition, the covariance of current velocity measurement is compared with theoretical prediction, and is a little higher than it
