Abstract
A solution to dramatically curtail both `insider´ and `outsider´ property theft and diversion problems may be both available and affordable. A Key Assets Protection and Recovery System is proposed. The system integrates advances in microprocessors, machine readers, image processing, fast data finding technology, and computer-based automation to produce a prototype system for use throughout Acme´s worldwide operations. It comprises an electronic article surveillance system, communications, a pass and identification system, and an investigations support system. These elements can be designed and built from the outset or added together separately as the local situation demands. Elements of the Key Assets Protection and Recovery System can vary from the simple to the very complex, depending on the specific situation´s particular requirements, existing equipment and communication links, current data bases and watchlists, the number of records to be processed, and a variety of other risk/benefits trades
