Abstract
The design issues related to the voice packet construction, encryption, transmission, decryption, and reconstruction of original speech signals for secure packet voice communication between source and destination end user systems in a packet switched wide area network are presented. A data encryption standard (DES) algorithm is used for encryption and decryption of voice packets and the public key cryptographic algorithm is used for session key distribution using a key distribution center. These issues may be considered for use in the design of a secure packet voice communication system in wide area networks
