Abstract
This paper presents a new behavioral model for nonlinear microwave components that allows prediction of the carrier-to-interference ratio (CIR) for an arbitrary signal using a kernel function derived from two-tone intermodulation distortion (IMD) measurements. The kernel function represents the incremental distortion characteristics of the device driven by a signal with small amplitude deviation. With knowledge of the probability distribution of the instantaneous signal envelope of an arbitrary signal, the total interference power, and thus the CIR may be calculated, simulation results are shown for random phase multicarrier signals and an IS-95b CDMA signal passed through a nonlinear amplifier model whose kernel functions have been derived from two-tone excitation
