Abstract
Crucial technical issues in digital cellular and microcellular telephony are reviewed, and it is contended that technology is now ready for a next-generation digital standard, to launch a microcellular telecommunications revolution larger in scope than cellular radio. The European Commission´s investigation, which is seeking the pan-European standard, is reviewed. Optimal parameters and means for achieving them using current and near-future technology are proposed
