  • Abstract
It is observed that magnetic components used in power electronics cannot simply be treated as if they were standard network transformers and chokes, since they are subjected to very complex and changeable operating conditions. It is suggested that a reliable and sophisticated product can be achieved only with a considerable investment in terms of know-how and design facilities, installations and product cycles, and measurement sources and equipment. Moreover, full familiarity with the user plants as well as with the operating conditions of the components is indispensable. It is concluded that a manufacturer of magnetic products must therefore be considered as an irreplaceable partner, inasmuch as technical and economic optimization of the transformers and chokes used in power plants is directly proportional to the degree of collaboration between the supplier and the user
