Abstract
TEMPEST is the unclassified codeword for the study of unintentional compromising emanations which, if intercepted and analyzed, disclose secure information transmitted, received, handled or otherwise processed by any information processing system. The standard specifications and technology are country and NATO classified and cannot be discussed in an open symposium. The material presented in this paper is readily available from existing nonclassified public domain sources in USA and Europe. This work is not a detailed discussion of all the technical issues involved, but is rather a introduction to the essential items that should give information to anyone seeking to address the relevant issues
