Abstract
A high-frequency, range-dependent acoustic performance prediction model, the underwater acoustic imaging model (UAIM) is described. UAIM is a system of computer algorithms designed to not only predict multi-beam sonar system performance, but also to model the imaging resulting from the use of these sonars in the highly complex environments often found in shallow waters. A general description of the model is provided, followed by several examples of UAIM predictions which image the effects of variation in bathymetry and in bottom type
