Abstract
In view of a hit-and-run traffic affair, we design a novel multi-sensor intelligent transportation monitoring system (MITMS) based on information fusion technology, which has an architecture covering the various roads of the city. Unlike single sensor system, MITMS takes the infrared detector, CCD camera and microprocessor as hardware foundation, integrated with vehicle body color recognition, logo recognition and type recognition as software module. Thus it can reduce the environmental interference in the process of feature extraction. Meanwhile, we present the theory of Dempster-Shafer evidence to merge information and make the final decision for target identification. The whole system can monitor the vehicles on the road and recognize suspect vehicle according to the information provided by eyewitness. With the aid of this system, police can not only save the forces, but also shorten the case-solving time.
