  • Abstract
    In this paper, a novel joint time-of-arrival (TOA) estimation and localization technique for ultra-wideband (UWB) sensor network applications is proposed. To our best knowledge, most works reported in the literature set the threshold for a TOA estimator based on the parameters of the received signal only. In this work, we use the residual localization error as a metric to accurately choose the threshold values. A sub-optimal version of the proposed algorithm with lower computational complexity is also discussed and the improvements are demonstrated using Monte-Carlo simulations based on the IEEE 802.15.4a channel models.
