Abstract
Telecommunications power systems have traditionally been thought of as a combination of several distinct products such as rectifiers, distribution systems, alarms, metering, and local and remote interface devices. Each of these products is often described in specifications as freestanding, independent items. This “piece-meal” viewpoint can lead to the repetition of some functions, such as adjustments, alarms and meters. This can lead to increased complexity of operation and maintenance and requires highly trained and experienced maintenance technicians. A system has been developed that integrates all parts of the power system and eliminates duplication of functions. This also provides a simple local control and remote user interface to minimize installation, maintenance and expansion efforts. This paper addresses the benefits and implementation of the integrated power system as they apply to installation, maintenance, and expansion activities
