The target of this paper is the issue of non-circular curve. Take the machining of ellipsoid surface as an example, the present paper compares the errors and smoothness of the ellipsoid surface smoothness produced by the three processing methods including isoparametric machining method, equi-distance machining method and equal-error machining method. The results indicate that, at the top of the first derivative in the ellipsoid, the equi-distance changes distinctively, but the other the first derivative changes smoothly. Thus, the variation of the first derivative in the processing leads to a noticeable difference in the smoothness of non-circular curve due to the different processing methods. In addition, the equi-distance machining is not suitable for processing the top of the ellipsoid top with dramatic curvature. Viewing form the processing efficiency and ease of programming, equi-distance machining and isoparametric machining have similar processing and programming efficiency. In contrast, the machining step of the equal-error machining has fewer processing steps with higher efficiency but it has to pay a much higher cost in programming.
