Abstract
We will only discuss detector solenoids which have a main component, as well as a radial fringe field component, but no azimuthal component. Both components can produce substantial Lorentz forces on the accelerator magnet coils. In the body of the magnet coils, where the current is only in the ±z direction, the solenoid Bz component generates no force only the radial component does. However both components can contribute to generate forces in the coil ends. As an example, consider the CLEO detector solenoid
