Abstract
This paper discusses design and realization of a novel green-oriented double conversion uninterruptible power supply (UPS). The benefits of three-level topology for low voltage circuits are provided as a motivation for its application in UPS systems. To further boost the advantages of the three-level structure, a customized IGBT power module promotes lower electrical and thermal stresses as well as noise reduction. As a result, the novel UPS features higher efficiency and effective size/weight reduction. Test results using a 3-phase, 4-wire, 50 Hz, 160 kVA-prototype confirm the improvement in efficiency and the high performance of the proposed UPS.
