Abstract
This paper describes a parallel connection control (PCC) algorithm for the setup, modification and release of ATM connections. The procedure for a basic two-party connection setup is first described. The extensions of this procedure for third-party connection control, the setup of unidirectional multicast connections, and the setup of multiparty-to-multiparty connections are then described. We make a novel, though simple, observation that multiparty-to-multiparty connections with multiple sending nodes can be realized as ATM layer connections without any application-layer special resources, such as bridges. We demonstrate two ways of realizing such connections. In the descriptions of the procedures for the different connection control tasks, we identify and solve several interesting problems
