Abstract
A mean square error analysis of the steady-state coefficient fluctuations of cascade infinite impulse response (IIR) adaptive notch filters is presented. It is useful for the detection of multiple sinusoids with additive white Gaussian noise. Assuming that the frequency separation between the sinusoids is large relative to the bandwidth of each notch filter, it is shown that the estimate error of the variable coefficient of each section can be studied by using first-order ordinary difference equations with stochastic input. The mean square errors of the steady-state coefficient fluctuations are derived in simple closed-form for gradient and normalized gradient algorithms. The results of computer simulations are presented to substantiate the analysis
