Abstract
Peer-to-peer (P2P) networks and mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET) share many similarities. However, building a P2P overlay network directly on top of a MANET can lead to poor performance unless specific cross-layer optimization is adopted. We propose a novel solution comprised of a MANET routing protocol, a middleware and an inter-layer communication mechanism which facilitates P2P application development while improving performance and reducing network resource usage when compared to layering a traditional unstructured P2P system on top of a MANET.
