Abstract
Ferroelectric liquid crystals (FLCs) having a biphenylpyrimidine structural core and a number of optically active wing groups are synthesized. Some of these crystals show a wide S/sub C//sup */ phase temperature range a high spontaneous polarization value (about 500nC/cm/sup 2/), and a tilt angle of about 45 degrees . They are suitable for use in ferroelectric liquid crystal displays.<>
