Abstract
As far as the author knows, the thermal behavior in a charge-pump utilizing thermoelectric power has not been analyzed theoretically, though the converter IC is used in the high-temperature environment. In this paper, a hybrid input charge-pump utilizing waste heat and its thermal analysis method are proposed. Unlike conventional converters, the proposed converter supplies energy by thermoelectric power in combination with battery power. The properties of the proposed converter are investigated by theoretical analysis and simulations. Through SPICE simulations and theoretical analysis, the following results are shown: 1. Even if the voltage of TEG is small, the proposed converter can provide the sufficient voltage to drive a wireless transmitter by compensating the insufficient voltage of TEG with the battery voltage. 2. The power efficiency decreases according to the rise of the surface temperature of IC, because the SC resistance is proportion to the on-resistance of MOS-switch.
