Abstract
Since liquid-crystal materials were discovered about 100 years ago, they have been used in a variety of industrial products such as thermal sensors, watches, calculators, and pocket-size TVs. Recently, responding to the demand of an increasingly information-oriented society, liquid-crystal technologies that use these kinds of materials have made remarkable advances in display performance, resulting in a great expansion of LCD applications and the market share of LCD devices. This paper reviews progress and trends of LCD technologies.
