Abstract
A general analysis is presented for the characterization of multibranch switched combining (SWC) systems in Rayleigh fading channels with imperfect channel estimation (ICE). The SWC schemes studied in this paper include the switch-and-stay combining (SSC) and switch-and-examine combining (SEC) systems. The probability density function (PDF) of the equivalent noise term at the output of an SWC combiner with ICE is derived in closed-form. Simple finite integral expressions are then obtained for the error rate of arbitrary 2D signaling with SWC and minimum mean square error (MMSE) channel estimators.
