  • Abstract
A 170 GHz, 500 kW CW gyrotron has been developed for testing ITER transmission line components. Although specified as a 500 kW source, the electrical design has been developed with the goal of generating up to 1 MW of continuous output power. The design employs a mod-anode electron gun, a cylindrical cavity operating in the TE31, 8 eigenmode, an internal converter to produce a fundamental Gaussian output beam, and a depressed collector to safely dissipate the residual electron beam power.
