Abstract
Home automation is a common field of interest for engineers, researchers and of course, consumers. Today, home automation systems are commonly found in many homes across many countries around the world. Such systems not only offer a high level control over home appliances, but also try to reduce the wastage of electricity. Powerline communication (PLC) is a popular technique employed in home automation systems that reuses household electrical wiring for communication. But the current systems have some drawbacks and need improvement. Our paper describes the design of a next generation home automation system that will provide great features to consumers as well as electricity distributors. The main features of this system are web based control and data-logging facility.
