Abstract
Summary form only given. Future fusion ignition experiments such as IGNITEX are likely to use low-Z materials for plasma-facing surfaces. Consequently, there is a need for calculating the surface response of low-Z materials exposed to ignited DT plasmas. The PLASUR code has been developed to address this type of problem. The interactions modeled in PLASUR are sputtering, backscattering, implantation, and thermalized release. Models dependent on plasma parameters have been developed for sputtering and backscattering by integrating models for monoenergetic incidence over the distribution function of the plasma at the plasma-surface interface. Models for monoenergetic ion incidence were fitted as polynomials and were assumed separable in three independent variables: the ion mass, energy, and angle of incidence. Numerical calculations with PLASUR were compared to the results of models published in the literature
