Abstract
Summary form only given. A high-power microwave pulse with an achieved frequency stabilization and repeatable narrowband operation has been generated in a new radially extracted reflex triode. This triode is composed of a velvet-covered real cathode, a 15-μm Al foil anode in the middle of the small dimension of the WR-650 rectangular waveguide, and a virtual cathode at the image side of the real cathode. To preserve the symmetry of the triode, the symmetric return current rods were added on each side of the Al foil anode. A movable waveguide stub opposite to the output end of the WR-650 waveguide can be adjusted to enhance the production of the resonance frequency. A TE10 mode centered at a frequency of 8.63 GHz with an output power of ~100 MW has been generated. The typical 3-dB frequency bandwidth is around 1%
