Abstract
The minimum variance (MV) approach is prevalent and useful in estimating the direction-of-arrival (DOA) of a broadband source using an array, and it has been well studied in the case of uniform sensor noise. In this paper, it is evaluated in another case of nonuniform white noise. We show that, compared to the temporal maximum-likelihood (ML) estimator, the MV estimator can give optimal performance while avoids the estimation of the nonuniform noise variances.
