Abstract
Wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSNs) differ from the traditional wireless sensor networks (WSNs) due to their characteristics of directivity and turnable. However, as for the existing research on coverage of wireless multimedia sensor networks, sense models were built without taking the whole possible sense area into consideration. Aiming at different application needs, the authors present a classification taxonomy, in which these applications are fallen into two categories: delayed coverage and non-delayed coverage, and then defines an coverage-enhancing algorithm for wireless multimedia sensor networks (DNDCEA) by introducing the model of virtual centripetal force. Redundant sensors are shut off and coverage of networks can be enhanced by re-deploy sensors under the repel force based virtual centripetal force although large numbers of redundant sensors are shut off. Simulation results are presented for demonstrating the effectiveness of our approach.
