Abstract
This paper approaches the utilization of expert system (ES) in operation and control of power substations, within a practical and far-reaching view. Initially, the paper delineates the potential areas and the relevance of utilization of ES as a practical tool in power substation (SE) control and operation. Then, a review of the requirements and organizational aspects is made, with evaluation of the benefits and for the impact of the incorporation of the ES on the organization. Finally, the experience involving the development and the utilization of ES for restoration of a SE is presented
