  • Abstract
With the application of nonlinear loads and impulse loads, base-wave Watt meters can not be applied to the power systems with these loads. For example, in 2006, ChangSha power company, HuNan, China, imported many base-wave Watt meters to measure the active power consumed by large factories. A mass measured results by these meters have shown that almost 30% of the electric energy consumed were not recorded by the meters. Clearly, the cost is huge. Based on this point, we analyze the shortcoming of the base-wave Watt meter first. Then a novel active power measuring method which can solve this problem very well is presented. Finally, the simulation results verify the effectiveness of the method and show that the method has a very good referential value and practical value for raising the level of the existing electric energy measurement.
