Abstract
This paper demonstrates that the natural dispersion of spiral antennas can be mitigated by pulse shaping. Specifically, it is shown that the fifth derivative Gaussian pulse with σ = Sips designed for indoor UWB systems can be used to compensate the dispersive properties of the examined spirals. Furthermore, the study shows that the planar equiangular and Archimedean spiral antenna configurations have high and almost constant fidelity factors at different observation angles and at different planes. The study demonstrated a good agreement between the three full-wave modeling methods used in this analysis. It is also shown that as expected the MOM results are more comparable to Friis theoretical transmission formula than the other partial differential equation based methods.
