Abstract
In microprocessor Voltage Regulators (VRs) with coupled inductors, the conventional DCR current sensing method doesn´t work any more because of the current coupling effect among phases. A new DCR current sensing method for achieving Adaptive Voltage Positioning (AVP) in VRs with coupled inductors is proposed in this paper. The proposed DCR current sensing methods in VRs with two types of coupled inductors (integrated coupled inductors and center tap coupled inductors) are analyzed respectively in detail. After that, the current sharing of the coupled inductor VR with the proposed DCR current sensing method is analyzed. Finally, the proposed DCR current sensing method for achieving AVP in coupled inductor VRs is verified by the experimental results.
