Abstract
This paper introduces a novel switched reluctance motor (SRM) that has a yokeless rotor and a stator configuration that uses substantially less back iron (yoke-less) than conventional types. The consequence of this unique yokeless rotor and yoke-less stator configuration, results in an extremely efficient torque generation mechanism and a very high power density motor. Simulation and experimental results are presented to show the potential advantages of the motor over conventional SRM.
