Abstract
The commercial acceptance of hybrid electric vehicles relies upon the development of reliable motor drive systems that are comparable to existing internal combustion engine platforms. This paper presents an improved motor diagnostic for detecting degraded behavior in permanent magnet AC motors. Results for a sliding mode observer implementation are given.
