Abstract
Compares and contrasts the civil sectors of NAVSTAR and GLONASS with an emphasis on how the commonalities and differences would affect the joint navigator. An analysis of orbital characteristics is made along with a comparison of signal structures. Aspects of the GLONASS data message are discussed with a comparison of data formats and transmitted correction parameters. System references are studied such as time offsets and co-ordinate system differences. Finally conclusions are drawn about the practical feasibility of a joint GPS/GLONASS navigator
