Abstract
Implementation of versions of the self-trunking strategies currently being introduced in PARS-like applications in data orientated networks will require the development of new strategies to optimise system user capacity when traffic comprises a variable mix of speech and short data exchanges. Two possible approaches are outlined and while no attempt has been made to structure house-keeping activity essential to instructing mobiles on how to access the system, both proposed methods are realistically implementable with modest increases in terminal intelligence relative to that required in PARS
