Abstract
The author introduces the MOTOCONIC chip-set which comprises three VLSI devices designed specifically for variable-speed AC drive systems employing a 3-phase PWM inverter. As a complete control system combining both hardware and software, the chip-set is a more advanced version of the earlier hybrid devices that were developed by a systematic approach to the analysis and design of digital PWM techniques. A critical evaluation of the existing digital techniques is presented as a prelude to a brief description of the system development approach employed for MOTOCONIC devices. The system structure of the chip-set is described, and some experimental results indicating its high performance and functionality are given
