  • Abstract
    Induction generators in energy recovery schemes are an excellent economic choice, giving operationally simple and low maintenance service. Self excited units can offer low inrush synchronizing performance, well suited to soft supply systems. The use of permanently connected capacitors is found to be advantageous, despite potential harmonic current and transient effects. The process of self-excitation has operationally been found to be reliable, the use of effective start sequencing being important in this respect. Despite serious supply disturbance, an induction generator has been shown to be safe in operation when suitable protection measures have been taken
