Abstract
Components of flux inside a switched reluctance motor (SRM) which do not cross the airgap between the stator and rotor teeth (henceforth called leakage fluxes) can have a major effect on the performance of SRMs. In this paper, the flux pattern within three SRMs in the important unaligned position, is used to obtain analytical formulae for leakage flux estimation, both from the excited pole to the stator back of the core and to the adjacent stator pole. The results are then compared with those obtained by finite element analysis. The formulae obtained for leakage permeances relate these components of the permeance to the dimensions of the motors
