Abstract
For a long time the publishing industry has been an area of closed system architectures, few standards and high equipment costs. There is now a trend to bring the benefits of new technology and open networks to these systems. This trend is due basically to the widening of the electronic publishing market and the emergence of wideband facilities (necessary for transmitting the large data files that are the norm in publishing), laying the foundation of a new synthesis. The DIMPE project is seen as one of the catalysts of this synthesis
