  • Abstract
An attractive advance in the use of the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method has been the introduction of the reduced FDTD (R-FDTD) algorithm, which can reduce computer memory requirement in the storage of the fields by up to 33%. The initial implementation is limited for solving Maxwell equations in isotropic lossless media. This paper introduces an extension of R-FDTD algorithm. The proposed extension uses the FDTD formula of the Maxwell curl equations to eliminate one component each of E and H. This enables us have a memory-efficient formulation for solving Maxwell equations in homogeneous isotropic lossy media.
